Dinosaur trace fossil

Megalosauripus

Scarborough

Trace fossil. Dinosaur. Made by the rear foot (pes) of a large theropod, such as Megalosaurus. A very *large 3 toed foot stepped into a soft grey clay. The subsequent void was filled with sand. Recent erosion has removed much of the clay, leaving the cast standing proud. Note the left toe. Grooves at its side show where the toe/skin has slid through the clay.  In the Long Nab Member of the Scalby Formation. Middle Jurassic. Scarborough. *The increments on the walking pole are 5cm.
