Lower Jurassic Crinoid

Robin Hoods Bay

Body fossil. Crinoid. An echinoderm, so related to starfish and sea urchins. It is supposed that some crinoids gripped to driftwood that sank. Pieces of the stem are common, some star-shaped. This fossil preserves part of the stem, the cup (calyx) and the base of the arms. Redcar Mudstone Formation.
