Summer Field Trips and Fossil Handling

Join us on a joint RGG and Leeds Geological Association trip to Roseberry Topping and Cliff Rigg Quarry, in the Cleveland Hills, on Sunday 9th August 2026 at 10.30am. We will be visiting a variety of geological features at Roseberry Topping, including the Saltwick Formation, and the Cleveland Dyke quarries and mine site at Cliff Rigg which also exposes the Cleveland Ironstone Formation. An optional extra will be a visit to Captain Cook’s Monument sandstone quarries, Monument (Ayton) ironstone mine, jet mines and an Alum quarry.

Membership

The RGG is for anyone with an interest in geology, whatever their age and background.  Membership allows you to join us for all summer field visits and winter talks. Join here.

Annual membership is currently £12, and £18 for a couple or family membership. Non-members are welcome to attend any event for £3. Earth Science students can join and attend for free.

Indoor talks are held between October and May. Between June and September we organise field visits along the coast and inland.
